Baltimore State’s Attorney Gregg L. Bernstein recently completed his third year as the City's top prosecutor.  In this time, Gregg has overhauled the State’s Attorney’s Office and made it more effective, efficient, and aggressive.  Gregg has launched more than a dozen initiatives designed to make Baltimore a safer place to live, learn, and enjoy.  He created the Major Investigations Unit and tasked it with the goal of using cutting-edge investigative and prosecutorial techniques to get the worst violent offenders off our streets.  He transitioned the State’s Attorney’s Office to a Community Prosecution model to ensure that prosecutors are more connected to the citizens and communities they serve, and he created a Special Victims Unit that focuses on child and adult victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence.  He has worked to combat witness intimidation and build trust in the system.  While concentrating his efforts on combating violent crime, Gregg has also expanded diversion programs for low-level, non-violent offenders; these efforts help to avoid saddling people with unnecessary criminal records and allow prosecutors to focus on the violent, repeat offenders plaguing our neighborhoods.

These efforts have shown real results:  under Gregg’s leadership, the State’s Attorney’s Office has increased its conviction rate for serious felony crimes, increased overall convictions, and dramatically improved prosecutors’ relationship with law enforcement.

"I'm running for a second term because while we have made tremendous progress, there is still much work to do.  I know that there is simply too much violence in our City, and it is unacceptable. I am running for re-election to drive down violent crime, fight back at the drug dealers who plague our corners, and ensure that our City’s future is bright.  Everyone who lives, works or visits Baltimore has the right to feel safe in all of our neighborhoods.  I look forward to continuing to work with residents, businesses and communities throughout the City to make Baltimore a safer City.”
